Psalm 119:13 -Happy are all who perfectly follow the laws of God, and always do his will,
rejecting compromise with evil, and walking only in his paths (Living Bible)
Well, that's simple enough, and pretty direct. But Lord, I have a few problems with it, making it fit me. First of all, you know that I have not followed your laws perfectly. Nobody has done that, except maybe Jesus. And as a second concern, I don't always even know your will, much less follow it. So how am I to walk only in your paths? And here I am, facing the great uncertainties of this disease... how do you expect me to be happy?
Help me, Lord, as I work my way through these verses of your Word. I know that you don't really expect me to be perfect... you only expect me to try, and to do my best to follow you. You are a God of love and grace, and you are in charge of filling whatever gap might exist between what you planned for me and what I have done or what I do. Help me, Lord, to feel secure in your love and grace.
What is your will for me, at this touchpoint of my life? Will you heal me, that I might be a witness to your love and power? Or will you comfort me, and bring me peace, even as I linger and die from this disease? Yes, Lord, I know that you offer me a miracle in either case. Yes, I know that I can be a witness for you in either case. And I know, Lord, that even if I die, your grace will bring me into fellowship with you in everlasting love.
Show me the path for today, Lord, and help me to be receptive to your leading day by day. And as I follow, imperfect as I am, will you give me happiness and joy, regardless of which path we follow together? A little joy along the way would be really nice, Lord.
O Great and Loving Lord, heal me.
Heal my body, if you will; but heal my soul, nevertheless;
Bring me the strength and comfort that I need for this day, and
Surround me once again with your love and care.
Life Question: Am I really in a "win/win" situation?
